Mojo Matters
Blues That Moves
Mojo Matters don’t just play the blues, they live it - and with their gloriously unpretentious, timeless sound, the band has been getting folks on the dance floor since their inception.
The Melbourne four-piece anchors their style in the classics of the 1950s, while still paying homage to the blues legends who have followed since. Their music is honest, soulful and played with just the right amount of grit. Mojo Matters doesn’t try to fix what isn’t broken. They are four passionate musicians who genuinely love this music, and have spent their lives chasing it down.
For more than two years, the Mojos have maintained a regular fixture in and around Melbourne, holding down residencies and grooving the stages at the city's most beloved blues venues. Their first festival feature at the Sale Festival 2025 confirmed what their regulars already knew: this is a band built for live audiences.
Sharryn
Lead Vocals
A certified soul singer from childhood, Sharryn’s eye-watering talent was best summarised by ARIA Award-winning guitarist Bob Spencer: ‘She's never out of tune, she can sing anything.’ Her love of music was a gift from her dad, who filled her childhood with the warmth of Nat King Cole, Gershwin, and Fats Waller. She began singing seriously after joining Weekend Warriors, and Sharryn soon found herself fronting a string of bands. Her own band, Dilemma, won a competition to perform live on ABC Radio and at Federation Square. For Sharryn, singing the blues is the realisation of a lifelong dream - a way of carrying those early songs with her dad forward into every room she plays.
Jeff
Bass
Jeff picked up the bass as a teenager and collided with the discography of Stevie Ray Vaughan around the same time - a discovery that, quite literally, changed his life. After a subsequent deep-dive into the extraordinary, enduring origins of blues, Jeff’s passion for the genre has only grown. His personal collection now sits north of 3000 blues albums, which is either an obsession or an affliction - or both. On stage, Jeff masters the groove with the kind of nuance that can only come from truly understanding the music.
Jeff
Guitar
(Yes, another Jeff. The blues work in mysterious ways.) This Jeff also picked up guitar as a teenager and promptly dropped out of university to become a rock star. Six months later, reality intervened and he got a ‘proper’ job - but the guitar never left his hands. He came to the blues later in life, starting with modern players and working his way back to the blues giants who started it all. He freely admits to a chronic case of Guitar Acquisition Syndrome, and his devotion runs so deep that even his cats are named B.B. and Albert. If you need someone to talk Telecasters with at the bar after the set, you've found your guy.
Andrew
Drums
Andrew has been a professional drummer for more than 20 years, and it shows. He brings dynamics, taste, and a rock-solid groove - constantly landing the beat exactly where it needs to be. With decades of experience, Andrew sits down at his drum kit with a deeply refined understanding of how to keep the rhythm while also adding spice. He’s the kind of drummer the rest of the band can lean on without ever needing to look back, and the kind the audience can trust to have their backs on the dance floor.
